Today is going to be one of the hardest days copy editors will ever face, so perhaps I should be nicer, but eternal vigilance is the price of good English. CNN.com kicked the day off right with "Obama prepares to step into history." I hope he is wearing sensible shoes.
But I think the Bob Greene Memorial Award for Inauguration Bloviation goes to Richard Roeper, whose Twitter feed is one of my guilty pleasures. "Today has been pre-ordained as historic. Future generations will know about this day."
That's pretty good, but the laurels go to "Some days start ordinary and become historic--usually for tragic reasons." In the sense that everyone should do what they do well, my hat is off.
