Northwestern University's Block Cinema continues its Remake/Remodel: Rock & Roll Movies series tonight and tomorrow at 8 PM. First up is D.A. Pennebaker's 1973 documentary Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, which captures (albeit in a somewhat blurry and murky way) the final performance of David Bowie's glam-alien alter ego.
Taylor Hackford's 1987 documentary Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll screens tomorrow and provides glimpses into the preparations for and performances at a tribute concert organized by Keith Richards to celebrate Chuck Berry's 60th birthday. Aside from concert footage, the documentary also includes little gems like a discussion on the origins of rock 'n' roll with Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and Bo Diddley.
Tickets are $6 for general admission, $4 for students and Block Museum members.
