Morse Theatre closing?

On Friday Howard Reich reported in the Tribune that the Morse Theatre may be shutting down, only four months after its opening. It's a beautiful space with excellent sound--the $6 million spent on its renovation really shows--and in the Reader's recent Rogers Park issue I wrote that it has "the potential to become one of Chicago's best small theaters." It'd be a damn shame if that potential were never fulfilled.

Reich's story didn't explain the situation aside from saying that a dispute between the venue's three-person management and a silent investor is headed to court. Then today the venue pulled the plug on Friday's concert by jazz pianist Aaron Parks, which I was really looking forward to. Things don't look good.

UPDATE: The Aaron Parks concert will now take place at Elastic on Friday night.

Today's playlist:

Jeremy Pelt, November (MaxJazz)
Zé Cafofinho e Suas Correntes, Um Pé na Meia, Outro de Fora (no label)
William Parker, Double Sunrise Over Neptune (Aum Fidelity)
Rafael Cortijo y Su Bonche, Sorongo (Tico/Fania)
Quinsin Nachoff-Bruno Tocanne Project, 5 New Dreams (Imuzzic)
