As the debate grinds on about what Chicago stands to gain and lose from its 2016 Olympic bid, the Chicago Anarchist Film Festival (last year's) presents a screening of Conrad Schmidt's 2007 documentary The Five Ring Circus, a look at the social, economic, ecological and civil liberties costs of Vancouver's successful bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Schmidt, founder of the Work Less Party of British Columbia, author of the self-published Workers of the World Relax and director of the film of the same name, reportedly sold his home to finance the documentary, which began with a look at the rising rate of homelessness in Vancouver as the city cleared areas for the games.
The Chicago Anarchist Film Festival is taking submissions through April 1 for the 2009 festival, which runs April 24-26. The Five Ring Circus screens Friday at 7 PM at Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, 800 S. Halsted. Admission is free.
