Forty years after he took America inside a mental institution in Titicut Follies, Frederick Wiseman gives the Idaho General Assembly his patented observational treatment in the 2007 film State Legislature, which has its local premiere Saturday at Chicago Filmmakers. Following politicos, lobbyists and activists over the entire 118-day 2004 legislative session, Wiseman, the consummate chronicler of American institutions, takes on nothing less than "the way democracy works," as he told New York Magazine last year.

State Legislature screens Saturday at 7 PM at 5243 N. Clark St.  $8, students $7, members $4.
