Rodan brings a somewhat tonier selection to its excellent May program of Sunday night Asian films, Soupline Cinema.
Here's the lineup:
May 3: Days of Being Wild, Wong Kar Wai's 1991 romance between Maggie Cheung and Leslie Cheung, set in 1960 Hong Kong, and Wan Guchan's 1941 Princess Iron Fan, an animated adaptation of a Chinese folk tale.
May 10: Hirokazu Kore-eda's 2004 drama Nobody Knows, portraying with documentary precision and evoacative natural performances a story of four kids suriviving in a cramped Tokyo apartment after their mom skips town.
May 17: Akira Kurosawa's 1949 noir Stray Dog, starring Toshiro Mifune, and Hua Shan's 1975 superhero romp The Super Inframan
Co-presented by Odd Obsession Video, the free screenings begin at 6 PM and include $3 bowls of Vientanamese pho – beef, tofu and noodle soup – and $3 Three Floyds drafts. Then from 10 PM to 2 AM, live video and audio mixing. At Rodan, 1530 N. Milwaukee.
