So Mayor Daley's unlimited 2016 guarantee seems to have worked, now that the BBC's reporting Chicago has a slight lead for the games (h/t Windy Citizen ). This part sort of sounds like the sales pitch they give you when you're buying a diamond ring:

"'Economics should not drive our decision,' Mr Rogge said at the end of a two-day IOC executive board meeting.

"'Frequently in the past we did not necessarily go for the richest city and I believe we were right to do that.'

"He added: 'Ultimately it is not the economics but leaving a sustainable legacy. When we leave, we want it to be a bonus for the city, the region and the country.'"

Private to Mr. Rogge: you may not be following American economic FAIL news, but I suggest that you avoid the word bonus next time.
