Tempted to go see the free show at Millennium Park tonight, SHELebration: A tribute to Shel Silverstein. It's an amazing lineup: Will Oldham, Tim Kazurinsky, Jon Langford and Sally Timms, Bobby Bare and Bobby Bare Jr., Ken Nordine, and others.
Unfortunately, since it's family-friendly, I assume we won't be hearing some of Silverstein's fine work from The Great Conch Train Robbery, including my favorite, "Don't Go to Sleep on the Road," the legitimately obscene "Quaaludes Again," and the neo-classical country of "So Good to So Bad."
NB: Like a lot of people of his generation who ended up in print, his first real training was at Stars and Stripes.
