Among many other happy things the Arlington Heights Japanese superstore Mitsuwa Marketplace is a testament to the indomitable human quest to turn pretty much everything into a crunchy, salty snack.

Case in point: Naka Shokuhin brand bitter melon chips, hailing from Okinawa. For me, bitter melon is a hard sell in many dishes, but I'm sure there's fan base out there for these lightly sweet, palm-oil-fried snacks with a lingering, malevolent finish.

Might be just the thing to accompany a Malort bender.
