What You Wore, and When

Socialites keep track of which gown they wore to which gala to avoid wearing the same dress for the same crowd twice and for future fashion archivists to pore over when they donate the contents of their wardrobes to a museum.

But even if the paparazzi aren't likely to swarm you on the street, and the only institution likely to be interested in your wardrobe after you pass on is the Salvation Army, it can still be useful to keep a wardrobe diary—especially if you tend to have items languishing at the back of your closet that you forget about.

I have a fashionable friend who is talking about purging her extensive collection of vintage and secondhand clothes and accessories (which fill up a whole room in her house) because she can't keep track of them. My Clothing Calendar,a free website that allows you to systematically record, organize, and manage your closet, could be a useful tool.

And if nothing else, it can help you remember that the other patrons at the Rainbo have seen you in that top way too often.
