The Green Chicago Restaurant Co-op, which I wrote about in January 2008, is set to announce a new initiative called "Guaranteed Green" in which restaurants given the nod by one of two independent environmental-certification organizations get a nifty seal of approval to post in their windows, ostensibly to help Chicago-area diners identify and support local restaurants that take significant steps toward protecting the environment.

That means participating restaurants will have to meet specific guidelines for things like waste management and sustainable purchasing of food and disposables. Restaurants in the process of going for the green at the moment include Keefer's, Ina's, Uncommon Ground, NAHA, and 17 others.

And the effort is getting a boost by the endorsement of that guy who owns Frontera Grill.
