It's the biggest weekend of the year for gallery openings, with the vast majority taking place tonight. And while the sheer number of receptions may seem overwhelming, there are some good resources out there to help you find your way around.
In addition to our listings, which can be sorted by neighborhood and date, you can check out the Chicago Gallery News roundup of openings. They're also offering a free trolley between River North and the West Loop from 6 to 9 PM, and Art Talk Chicago has a good map of all the galleries that have openings, complete with details on the shows at each place.
For previews of some of the new shows, take a look at Art Talk Chicago and Paul Klein's ArtLetter; the Trib also has a good guide. My personal best bets include Freaks and Flash, a show at Intuit of tattoo designs and circus banners featuring tattooed performers; Pearl of the Snowlands, a show of Buddhist printing from the Derge Parkhang at Columbia College's Center for the Book and Paper Arts; and Skin, the inaugural show for the newly reopened Dubhe Carreño Gallery.
