Maura at Idolator notes that today is the compact disc's 27th birthday. It's pretty astounding, considering the format's many flaws and the fact that it's not even the best sounding or most convenient way to sell, buy, or listen to music these days, that it's still around. But happy birthday anyway, I guess.

She also includes a list of the first 50 CDs ever released, which Sony put out for the early adopters who really had to be in on the format from the very start. The first time I read through it I thought, "Man, that's a lot of Boz Scaggs." A second glance showed that there are actually only two Boz Scaggs albums on the list, but the fact that 4 percent of the world's total CD catalog was briefly by the guy who wrote "We're All Alone" still feels excessive.

So of course after reading that I had to spend some time on YouTube watching Boz Scaggs videos:

The people at Sony don't always have the best ideas, but every once in a while they really nail it.
