Wino from Shrinebuilder, shown mid-shred in a pic by Flickr user Silverfuture.

If you missed Monica Kendrick's Critic's Choice, you maybe don't know that Shrinebuilder is a supergroup of heavy hitters from the underground metal scene: Scott "Wino" Weinrich is from Saint Vitus and Hidden Hand, Scott Kelly is in Neurosis, Al Cisneros is from Om and Sleep, and Dale Crover drums for the Melvins. I was at one of their two sets at the Bottle on Saturday. While I enjoyed being pummeled by their slow-motion death-blues, I also felt like the band is the metal version of Alien: Resurrection, where an ensemble cast made up of some of my absolute favorite people in their respective fields sets up expectations that can't reasonably be achieved.
