Maybe Lupe Fiasco doesn't have a TV or the Internet or maybe he's been living in Mongolia and didn't hear about how Chris Brown repeatedly hit Rihanna in the face. That might explain why Brown's new album, Graffiti, has a collabo with Lupe as a bonus track. Maybe it was recorded before the beating became public. Who knows? I would just like to think that Lupe isn't the type to make records with guys who commit felonious assault.
You can listen to "Girlfriend" here. Like most of Brown's songs it's cloying and slick. Much better is Lupe's short but satisfying recent mix tape, Enemy of the State, which includes a rap over a Radiohead song—a likely candidate for Stuff White People Like—and which is almost certainly the first hip-hop mix to include a plug for the rapper's awareness-raising trip up Mount Kilimanjaro.
