Rodarte for Target: Report

Did you get to Target on Sunday to get first dibs on the Rodarte collection? I didn’t. Luckily the one near my suburban office still had a bunch of items on Monday, but one worker told me they’d been mighty busy and had run out of some pieces.

So I didn’t get to check out the entire collection in person, but what I did see looked pretty on the hangers, and I grabbed a half dozen things to try on, including a tulle bow blouse (pictured above) and the much-talked-about peach dress (which appears to be sold out online already). I didn't find the dress as successful as others claimed it to be or maybe you just need a skinnier waist to pull off that elastic around the middle.

The coolest thing was probably the ribcage sequin dress. Like the scholarship student who studies every nuance of the popular clique, it almost got it exactly right. It would fit right in on the rack at Barney's—if the back weren’t so obviously synthetic. A scoop-neck short-sleeve top in transparent, stretchy navy lace was a nice change from black. In fact several of the lace pieces looked quite respectable—none of it had the gross shininess of cheap polyester lace. The faux fur vest, on the other hand, looked like it would quickly become matted-looking. Maybe Tavi Gevinson could pull it off.

If everything’s sold out at your neighborhood Target, don’t worry—you'll find stuff on eBay, albeit at several times the original price.
