The Chicago Inter-Ocean, July 17, 1888. Rural "wild woman" items like this were a nationwide perennial feature in late-19th century newspapers.

This item is pretty typical, except that it doesn't specify whether she was naked (usually the case) or clad in some impressively primitive costume of skins, furs, or rags. But the standard functions of the sorority are to A) scare the hell out of the women and children and B) elude capture by a posse of menfolk.
