Journalist and teacher Jim Sulski, a faculty member at Columbia College since 1991, passed away the morning of Thursday, Jan. 7, after a long battle with cancer. Sulski, an associate professor at Columbia, was faculty adviser for the award-winning Columbia Chronicle student newspaper. "He was incredibly dedicated to the Chronicle, and so proud of his students' achievements," said Doreen Bartoni, dean of Columbia's School of Media Arts. "He continued to mentor his students in their professional careers." Sulski, who taught various news writing courses at Columbia over the years, held an M.A. in communications from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and had written for publications ranging from Crain's Chicago Business and the Chicago Tribune to Consumer's Digest. He is survived by his wife, Jo Cates, associate vice president for academic research and dean of the library at Columbia, and by their children.
