A White Mystery Weekend (Plus a Few Other Shows Worth Seeing)

If you've been keeping an eye on busy brother-sister garage-rock duo White Mystery, it shouldn't surprise you that they're taking the stage both tonight and tomorrow night—they routinely play multiple shows in town in a single week. And who's complaining?

I caught Alex and Francis White in December with Mannequin Men at the Empty Bottle, after going a while without seeing them, and they've really tightened up their stage show, no doubt by gigging furiously month in and month out. Alex hasn't lost a bit of her charm or her chops, and now Francis's wild, tumbling drumming meshes with her guitar playing instead of muddying the duo's sound. It definitely does not suck.

All fanboy fawning aside, White Mystery is hitting Metro tonight for a Gapers Block-sponsored 18-and-up bash that gets rolling at 9 PM. The lineup, headliner first, is Pet Lions, Post Honeymoon, White Mystery, and Dirty Diamonds. Tickets are nine bucks, but if you take advantage of Metro's text message special admission is free before 9 PM and six dollars thereafter.

On Saturday the Whites visit Flo's Algiers Lounge (5436 W. Montrose) in Portage Park for a free party with Johnny & the Limelights and comedian Chris Condren. White Mystery will play a set every hour from 9 PM till 1 AM.

Other worthwhile shows not highlighted on the List this week include a two-night stint at Schubas by Brighton MA on Friday and Saturday, Robert Gordon & the Gang They Couldn't Hang at the Abbey Pub on Saturday, and Prefuse 73 at the Empty Bottle on Sunday.

It's going to be a good weekend.
