The collaboration between graphic novelist Ezra Claytan Daniels and chamber-music group Fifth House Ensemble continues tonight with The Great Exodus of the Tamed, the second installment of the Black Violet series.

Fifth House accompanies slides by Daniels that illustrate the story of Violet, one of many black cats shouldering blame for a devastating plague outbreak in 1665 London. When the house cat's owner leaves home to tend to the sick, Violet is left to fend for herself on the street, eventually befriending a white rat who may not be as altruistic as she first seems. Musical selections include pieces by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Queen (yes, the band).

Tonight's free concert begins at 7 PM at the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater. There will be a second performance at Evanston's SPACE on Thursday, February 4, at 8 PM ($15 general admission).

The third and final act of the series will be presented April 5 and 8.
