Meeting Spike Lee in Tuscany on the set of Miracle at St. Anna, African-Italian filmmaker Fred Kudjo Kuwornu was inspired to tell the true story that Lee dramatized, of the all-black 92nd Infantry Division, the "Buffalo Soldiers" who fought in Italy in World War II.
"These men fought two wars at the same time," Kuwornu says, "one against the Nazis, the other against racial discrimination. And those who survived found that their contributions went unnoticed upon their return to the United States of America."
Inside Buffalo, the documentary Kuwornu made with Patrick Jeffrey, screens Tuesday 2/2 at Noon at Kennedy-King College.
Charles Davis, a historian at the African American Military Museum, moderates a post-screening discussion.
