LIghtplay: Black-White-Gray

  • "LIghtplay: Black-White-Gray"

In 1930, Hungarian artist László Moholy-Nagy, founder of the Institute of Design (now part of IIT), filmed the interplay of light and shadow through his kinetic sculpture Light Prop for an Electric Stage (Light Space Modulator) in his experimental short Lightplay: Black-White-Grey.

For the first time since the 40s, both Lightplay and Light Prop are on display, beginning this week at Loyola University Museum of Art.

It's part of Moholy: An Education of the Senses, an exhibition of Moholy-Nagy's photographs, films, paintings, books, and prints that opened Wednesday and runs through May 9.

At LUMA, Lewis Towers, 820 N. Michigan Ave. $6; free for students.
