Two Brothers Brewing Company unveils its new oak-aged brew, Resistance, at a tasting in the South Loop; admission is free, though samples aren't (Binny’s wasn’t sure what prices would be when I called). The beer, described as having “aromas of oak, honeyed malt sweetness, and piney citrus hops,” will be available for sale at the tasting. 6-8 PM, Binny’s Beverage Depot, 1132 S. Jefferson, 312-768-4400.

At this month’s installment of the Alliance Francaise’s “Being a Chef” series, instructor Madelaine Bullwinkel urges attendees to Meet the Croque Monsieur family. The class includes how-tos on the hot ham-and-cheese sandwich as well as its descendants, the Croques Madame and Mademoiselle. Call 312-337-1070 to register. 10 AM, Alliance Francaise, 54 W. Chicago, $75 for members, $85 for non-members.

Restaurants switch off the lights Saturday night during Earth Hour, an annual event aimed at raising awareness of global warming. Participating locations are also offering specials including 20 percent off carryout bills at Osteria Via Stato if you bring a reusable bag and glow-in-the-dark ceviche platters ($10.95) at Nacional 27. C-View, the lounge at the top of the Affinia Chicago, offers a special candlelit cocktail menu that includes the “Big Al”—a mixture of VeeV Acai Spirit, chamomile tea syrup, St. Germaine, organic alfalfa honey, and lemon ($10). 8:30-9:30 PM, Nacional 27, 325 W. Huron, 312-664-2727; Osteria Via Stato, 620 N. State, 312-642-8450; C-View, 166 E. Superior, 312-523-0923; Red Kiva, 1108 W. Randolph, 312-226-5577.

After picking up a “passport” at Curves of Rogers Park (7300 N. Western), participants in the Rogers Park Dinner Crawl are shuttled by van to more than a dozen restaurants participating in the progressive dinner, including The Fish Keg, Fulton's Chicken, Candlelite Chicago, and Bakers Square. Tickets are available at the Rogers Park Business Alliance (1448 W. Morse), at Curves of Rogers Park, or on-line. 4-8 PM, $25 in advance, $35 day of event.
