California's Stone Brewing Company kicks off its arrival in Chicago this week with nine days of events. Beginning Thursday, bars across the city devote tap space to Stone beers, which include the company's seven year-round releases as well as specialties like Old Guardian Barley Wine and the Vertical Epic series. An exhaustive (and exhausting) list of the goings-on is here. From the more than 30 events, we've picked out some good bets.

The Twisted Spoke devotes each of its 20 taps to Stone brews—including Stone Smoked Porter With Vanilla Beans and 2007 Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine—and pairs them with Stone Smoked Porter sausage. Company CEO Greg Koch will be there from 6-7 PM. 5 PM, 501 N. Ogden, 312-666-1500.

The Hopleaf
offers ten Stone beers on tap, and creates a special three-course prix fixe menu to pair with them. In the upstairs bar, free samples of '06-'09 Vertical Epic Ales and Cali Belgique IPA will be available. 7 PM, 5148 N. Clark, 773-334-9851.

Several versions of Stone's Arrogance beers are on tap at Kuma's Corner. 10 PM, 2900 W. Belmont, 773-604-8769.

A tour of the three locations of Small Bar—each pouring a different barrel-aged brew—culminates in a beer-and-music showcase at Reggie's Music Joint. The Logan Square Small Bar (2956 N. Albany, 773-509-9888) serves bourbon barrel-aged Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout; the Fullerton location (1415 W. Fullerton, 773-525-2727) has Old Guardian Barley Wine aged in red-wine barrels; and another bourbon barrel-aged beer, 2008 Stone Imperial Russian Stout, is on tap at the Division location (2049 W. Division, 773-772-2727). Trolleys shuttle attendees among all three locations, with runs to Reggie's leaving from Division. At the afterparty at Reggie's, music is provided by the Muddy Udders and there will be, yes, beer. The Small Bar events are between 6 and 9 PM; the party at Reggie's (2105 S. State, 312-949-0120) begins at 8:30 PM.

All three locations of Lush Wine and Spirits host parties celebrating Stone tonight from 6 to 9 PM. Rare beers are available on tap, as well as bottled for purchase, at all locations. 2232 W. Roscoe, 773-281-8888; 1257 S. Halsted, 312-738-1900; 1412 W. Chicago Avenue, 312-666-6900.

Those willing to travel outside the city can try up to 30 of Stone's products on tap at Finnegan's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Plainfield. Stone swag, including DVDs and tee-shirts, is for sale; CEO Koch will be around to autograph merchandise and answer questions. 6 PM, 24102 W. Lockport, Plainfield, IL, 60544, 815-733-5177.

Whole Foods Lincoln Park has 15 Stone beers on tap and suggestions for how to pair them with cheeses, chocolates, and more. The store pours rare finds, including 2006 Double Bastard and Vertical Epic Ales. 4-7 PM, 1550 N. Kingsbury, 312-587-0648.

The Map Room highlights five limited beers, including Stone Ruination IPA and Double Dry-Hopped Stone IPA with Centennial and Amarillo Hops. 8 PM, 1949 N. Hoyne, 773-252-7636.

Stone is apparently bringing only a few kegs of its Imperial Russian Stout along, and it warns that they'll run out fast: get them tonight at The Long Room, which serves five that and four other Stone beers from 6 to 9 PM. 1612 W. Irving Park, 773-665-4500.

Pint night at Jake Melnick's Corner Tap has Stone teaming up with Surly Brewing Company—reps from both companies will be on hand, and the bar serves a couple of Stone's rarer brews. 6-9 PM, 41 E. Superior, 312-266-0400.

Stone Smoked Porter With Vanilla Beans is the featured beer at Bar on Buena tonight from 6 to 9 PM. 910 W. Buena, 773-525-8665.

Sheffield's devotes 11 of its taps to Stone, including Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, Ruination IPA, and Arrogant Bastard Ale. 6-9 PM, 3258 N. Sheffield, 773-281-4989.

In honor of the national Craft Brewers Conference, held this year in Chicago from 4/7 to 4/10, Longman & Eagle offers a special menu paired with Stone beer. Dishes include peekytoe crab cakes with sorrel puree and morel mushrooms, paired with Stone Pale Ale, and duck confit lentil du pays with sous vide endive, with Arrogant Bastard. The full menu is on the restaurant's Facebook page. Stone CEO Greg Koch will attend from 5 to 6:30 pm. $55 (not including tax and tip), 5 PM-1 AM, 2657 N. Kedzie, 773-276-7110.

The Publican hosts a beer snob's meeting of the minds tonight: Stone CEO Greg Koch joins brewers from other artisan outfits, including Dogfish Head's Sam Calagione, Three Floyds' Nick Floyd, 21st Amendment's Shaun O'Sullivan, and Firestone Walker's Matt Brynildson. Stone's first collaboration brew—produced with 21st Amendment and Firestone Walker—is one of the beers on tap. 9 PM, 837 W. Fulton, 312-733-9555.

Another evening of collaboration: Quenchers devotes eight taps to Stone and Two Brothers Brewing Company. 6-9 PM, 2401 N. Western, 773-276-9730.

Big Star
celebrates Stone Brewing's arrival Friday and Saturday night with four of the brewery's hoppiest beers, including an extra-hoppy Stone IPA that's never been bottled. 1531 N. Damen, 773-235-4039.

Stone teams up with Founders Brewing Company tonight for one final party at Reggie's Music Joint. The theme is Bastards: Stone highlights various Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard Ales, including a rare brandy-barrel aged variety from 2006. 7-10 PM, 2105 S. State, 312-949-0120.
