Copenhagen Cycle Chic highlighted these cool-looking bike bags

made in Sicily with organic cotton. The handles are crafted from recycled inner tubes, and the buttons are made out of solidified lava from Mt. Etna. They're created and sold by the owner of a bike store called Ortigiano
, named after the island of Ortigia in Syracuse where the store is located. They also function as panniers—photos from the site show them mounted on bike racks—though there's no photo of the hook system. The bags are 90 euros plus shipping.
It's a small but pleasing 21st-century example of the Italian tradition of craftsmanship (albeit undertaken by someone who does not appear to be Italian himself)—one that is increasingly threatened by globalization and economic factors.
