Theater Wit is presenting New York performer Marcella Goheen this weekend in her touring solo show The Maria Project. First performed in 2007 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the piece is inspired by the long-held family secret that Goheen's maternal grandmother, Maria Salazar, was murdered in 1931 by her husband. But the work isn't only about Salazar's violent death. It also explores the way a family secret—domestic abuse, alcoholism, abandonment—can fester over generations, slowly seeping emotional poison. Sat 8/14, 8 PM, Sun 8/15, 3 PM, Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont, 773-975-8150, theaterwit.org, $18-$35.
