The American Family Farm, a lecture by pig farmer Jon Hoek, focuses on the status and recent history of animal husbandry. Following the talk, a picnic-style lunch features a whole roasted pig from Hoek’s Belstra Farm, along with sweet corn, salads, pies, and more. Local breweries Revolution, Rock Bottom, Half Acre, and Three Floyds join Goose Island for Belgian Fest, a celebration of Belgian-style brews. A benefit for Purple Asparagus, which teaches families about healthy eating, Corks & Crayons features an array of dishes from Uncommon Ground’s menu, as well as drinks—with alcohol and without—and a silent auction. Starting today, diners at some local restaurants can earn a complimentary ticket to Chicago Gourmet, the culinary celebration held this year on 9/25 and 9/26. To collect the one-day Dine Around pass (which retails for $150, with a wine-tasting option for an additional $25), save receipts from five participating restaurants—there are more than 50 from which to choose—and redeem them at the CG registration table.
