In What’s New, our regular roundup of recent openings, Kristina Meyer finds superior sushi at West Town’s Arami, a Japanese restaurant from Small Bar owners Troy and Ty Fugimura that shows chef B.K. Park (Mirai, Meiji, Aria) at the top of his game, offering eye-openers like whole aji (horse mackerel). Mike Sula checks out the Old Town double bill from former Levy Restaurants corporate chef John McLean, whose Burger Bar (formerly Urban Burger Bar) piles on not just burgers but beer, "stackers," sides (zucchini fries anyone?), and hand-pulled shakes. Next door is Sono Wood Fired, where a 1,000-degree tiled wood-burning oven is turning out "80 percent" of a menu focused largely on white and red Neopolitan pizzas.

In the listings that follow are ten more recent openings, among them Wicker Park’s Gunner’s, classic cocktails and a concise menu of appetizers and sandwiches from veterans of the Matchbox and the Silver Palm; Logan Square’s Don Diablo, the latest venture from Fonda del Mar chef Angel Hernandez, where if you bring your own tequila they’ll make you a mean margarita; and the Boiler Room, also in Logan Square, where a slice of pizza, a tall boy PBR, and a shot of Jameson (on tap) will set you back all of $7.50.
