For nine years, the Chicago Moving Company's modern-dance-focused Other Dance Festival has been the alternative to the city's mega-fest, Dance Chicago. Now there's an alternative to the alternative. This weekend Nicole Gifford of Nicole Gifford Dance and Melissa Mallinson of Ology Dance inaugurate the Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, featuring performances by 20 individuals and companies. Among them are some of Chicago's lesser-known practitioners (Rebecca Lemme, RE/Dance Group, Jenny Showalter's Treeline Dance) as well as troupes from the world beyond (Los Angeles, Toronto, NYC, Cleveland, Beloit, Indianapolis). More familiar artists (choreographer Autumn Eckman, Same Planet Different World, Elements Contemporary Ballet) anchor the three programs.
