Northwestern University cultural theorist Laura Kipnis discusses How to Become a Scandal: Adventures in Bad Behavior for a Chicago Humanities Festival program (10:30 AM, UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt). Lauri Apple writes, "A perceptive and masterful writer, Kipnis avoids armchair psychology in favor of indulging her curiosity about what led her subjects down tragic roads." Tickets are $5 in advance, $10 at the door.

After that, you can skip over to the Field Museum (1400 S. Lake Shore Dr.), where at 1 PM Jay Kirk presents Kingdom Under Glass: A Tale of Obsession, Adventure, and One Man's Quest to Preserve the World's Great Animals, his compelling story about renowned taxidermist Carl Akeley, who mounted the African elephants on display in the museum's Stanley Field Hall. Kirk's talk is free with museum admission.
