"Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though all inclinations of his heart are evil from childhood and never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done.
"As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease." [Genesis 8.20-21]
I believe that is the infallible word of god, and that's the way it is going to be for his creation... The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood.
Even if you believe the NIV is the infallible word of God, it's still bad theology. All God's saying is that he's not going to wipe out all living creatures, even if they really have it coming—He's still pretty explicit about how horrible mankind is—not that he's going to keep us from submerging Vanuatu. (He also didn't say He wouldn't stop fucking with us; just ask the Sodomites or Lot's wife.) It's like your landlord telling you that he's not going to burn the apartment complex to the ground the next time you have a kegger; good luck using that as an out on the damages.
