A kitchen confidence class, a wine-blending party, a tequila dinner, and more.
Opolo Vineyards’ Jeff Faber leads guests in what’s billed as a “Bordeaux-style” wine-blending party, where varieties like merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot can be blended and subsequently consumed. 5:30-7:30 PM, Redhead Piano Bar, 16 W. Ontario, 312-640-1000, $20-$30.
The city-sponsored World Kitchen cooking class series commences its winter schedule tonight with the first of the four-part course Kitchen Confidence, meant to bolster basic home culinary skills. Other classes include Chicago’s Best, Cooking of the Green, and Flavors of Morocco. Through 3/31, Chicago’s Downtown Farmstand, 66 E. Randolph, 312-742-8497, $30 for single classes, $100 for four “series” classes.
For the ChicaGourmets-sponsored Celebrating Culture and Cuisine dinner, Rhapsody’s new chef Dean Zanella, onboard since September, prepares an Italian meal that’s served in the restaurant’s glass-walled “conductor’s room.” It includes passed antipasti like duck liver mousse with white truffle essence as well as plated courses like salami and scallion-stuffed veal and a chocolate and chestnut tart. Wine accompanies each dish. 6 PM, Rhapsody, 65 E. Adams, 312-786-9911, $105.
Menu information isn’t provided beforehand, but City Provisions chef Cleetus Friedman plans to pair all five courses at tonight’s Supper Club with cocktails made from Casa Noble tequila. Advance reservations required; please inform them of any dietary restrictions. 6 PM, City Provisions Deli, 1818 W. Wilson, 773-293-2489, $75.
