State representative Annazette Collins was named the replacement for retiring state senator Rickey Hendon today. Hendon, whose district is located on the city's west side, resigned last month.
Collins, a six-term representative, was among 13 contenders considered by a committee of powerful Democrats. Others under consideration included former gubernatorial candidate Scott Lee Cohen and Patricia Van Pelt Watkins, a community activist who ran for mayor.
The Reader's Ben Joravsky covered the run-up to the committee vote in our latest issue.
