Roger Ebert, Richard Longworth, and Elizabeth Brackett will receive lifetime achievement awards from the Chicago Headline Club at the club's annual dinner May 6.

Ebert you know. He writes about movies but doesn't live his life inside movie houses. His blog is a model of informal wisdom and a memoir in installments, and it's very different from the twitchy eruptions that most blogs are.

Longworth covered the world for UPI and then the Chicago Tribune, and later distilled that global knowledge to write a compelling book about the rust belt. If you enjoyed that link, here's another one you'll find just as interesting.

You watch Brackett as a correspondent and occasional host on WTTW's Chicago Tonight, and on PBS's NewsHour With Jim Lehrer. Early in her career she worked at several other Chicago TV stations, and a couple of years ago she produced the book, Pay to Play: How Rod Blagojevich Turned Political Corruption Into a National Sideshow.

The surprise about Ebert is that he hadn't win the Headline Club award already. Longworth and Brackett show the organization's paying attention.

The dinner's at the Allegro Hotel.
