While everyone was aflutter anticipating Kate Middleton's wedding dress—which ended up being a flattering and elegant if not spectacular design by Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen—I was more excited to see the hats. Women's headgear at weddings is a British tradition, a chance to flaunt everything from traditional brimmed numbers to exquisite fascinators, and anything in between. Prince Andrew's daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, can always be counted on for unusual choices—even if they don't always quite work, you have to give them points for taking chances. There are some good slide shows here and here, while earlier this week Vanity Fair collected images of some fashion-forward examples worn at a variety of posh events across the pond in recent years.
