* Except for a 2008 spike (which mirrored a citywide trend), crime in the 23rd District—which includes not just Boys Town but parts of Uptown and Lincoln Park—declined every year between 2006 and 2010.
* January-June 2010 vs. January-June 2011: down, but not really—there were literally two fewer incidents reported this year than last year.
* Burglary is up 11.7 percent from last year; motor vehicle theft rose, too.
* 23rd commander Kathleen Boehmer says that hers is the second-safest district in the city, with only a few more crimes reported so far this year than in the 20th, which includes Andersonville and Lincoln Square. The 23rd District accounts for just over 2 percent of crime reported in Chicago.
