Just a year ago Daniel Smith and Matt Kimmel were catching up on sleep after mounting the first Neon Marshmallow fest at the Viaduct Theater—four marathon days that gave Chicago a great underground gathering of experimental and largely electronic music
. They streamlined things a bit earlier this summer for the second installment, which lasted three days at the Empty Bottle, but still scored coups like a live set by composer Morton Subotnick. You'd think they'd be chilling right about now, maybe cooking up ideas for next year, but instead the energetic duo has put together an impressive Neon Marshallow Festival in New York—it'll be at Public Assembly in Brooklyn from October 14 to 16.
Among the artists performing are Rhys Chatham, Loren Connors, Tim Hecker, Mark Fell, Grouper, Ryley Walker, Phill Niblock, Kevin Drumm, and Rene Hell. Full details, including other performers and links to purchase tickets, will be added to the Neon Marshallow website later today. In the meantime, you can see more info and buy fest passes on the Public Assembly site.
