Two major events tomorrow: Topshop opens and it's Fashion's Night Out. And there's other stuff happening too. Strap on your platforms.
Topshop (which also comprises men's brand Topman), the UK-based retailer that's been mounting a PR blitz all summer, officially opens the doors to the new 30,000-square-foot shop at 830 N. Michigan tomorrow at 11 AM sharp.
Fashion's Night Out was conceived in 2009 as a way to help New York boutiques and designers survive tough economic times; last year it went national. As we have yet to escape the bad times, the festivities continue. Stores all over the city are taking part by offering cocktails and treats to eat; prizes and raffles; DJs and dancing; and all sorts of party-type activities. Highlights include a raffle with some good prizes from the shops on Oak Street, "fashion astrologers" in the shoe department at Macy's Water Tower Place, and complimentary mini-manicures at Chanel featuring a new denim-inspired line of polish. Most events kick off at 6 PM; you can find a full list of events on the website.
For a slightly more relaxed evening, head to Post 27, 1819 W. Grand, for the official welcoming party for Anne Novotny of Frei Designs, who's set up a shop-within-a-shop at the store. It's from 6 to 9 PM.
On Friday, Florodora hosts two trunk shows. At Florodora Shoes, 348 S. Dearborn, they're featuring footwear label All Black, while at the original store, 330 S. Dearborn, Chicago women's line Kate Boggiano is highlighted. Both are from noon to 6 PM.
