Park(ing) Day 2010
Park(ing) Day, an international event in which metered parking spaces are converted into into temporary parks, returns to Chicago tomorrow for its third year. The project began in San Francisco in 2005 when the design company Rebar created a park (complete with sod) in a single parking space for two hours. The goal is "to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to generate critical debate around how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of urban human habitat."

Last year there were some pretty interesting projects, including a mini-golf course and a bike valet, and several of the same organizations are participating again this year. Locations for tomorrow's spots can be found on this map, though details are a bit sketchy for most places. The only two I found with exact times are Urban Habitat Chicago, which will be doing yoga and free bike demos and repairs at 2323 N. Milwaukee (Revolution Brewing) from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Moss Design, which will have a "Bicycle Comfort Station" with free food, live music, bike parking and repair, and relaxation areas at 3552 N. Southport (Southport Grocery) from 9 AM to 5 PM.
