It doesn't hurt to be big in this event, and this year's Van Duinen project, "Metaphorest," is a mammoth mosaic mural, 40-feet tall and 88-feet wide.
It also doesn't hurt to have a familiar theme: the $250,000 first-place public vote prize went to a California artist, Mia Tavonatti for a nine-foot by thirteen-foot stained glass mosaic, "Crucifixion."
A second Chicago artist, Caroline Young, won a $7,000 jury prize for her "time-based" work, "Remember: Replay: Repeat."
