That's just one of a dozen beers on offer at the Bluebird's winter beer tasting next Tuesday, December 13, at 7:30 PM. Our beer expert singles out as particularly notable Two Brothers Why Winter barley-wine style beer (2009 vintage), Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer (2008 vintage), Stone Brewing Company's Old Guardian barley-wine style beer (2008 vintage), Jolly Pumpkin's Noel de Calabaza, and Brasserie Dupon Avec les Bons Voeux winter saison. The tasting, which includes snacks, is $30; reservations at email@example.com.
There are still a couple spots left at S&M's Underground's dinner with beer pairings, featuring home-brewed suds from Jason Arnold, who'll be contributing a smoked rye ale, a triple-milk IPA, and a traditional framboise. The "meat lovers meal" starts with a flight of waterzooi (a Dutch stew), carbonade, and goulash, followed by duck with chestnuts, spinach, and shallots; rabbit with bacon and herbed frites with aioli; pork shoulder, pork cheek, and jagerwurst with house-pickled vegetables and cabbage; and a lemon-basil-black pepper tart. It's Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17, with a $55 suggested donation; reservations at reserve.smunderground.org or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. "Feel free to bring more" booze, says M.
