On Tuesday Chris Nugent, executive chef at Les Nomades from 2005 until the fall of this year, opened Goosefoot in Lincoln Square, where he’ll be offering seasonally-based, market-driven, eight-course tasting menus ($90), with 12-course menus to debut next year. According to the bio on the restaurant's website, Nugent, whose mother died when he was 11, was moved to strike out on his own after his brother died in 2009: he “made a promise he would not waste another day cooking unless it was food with great culinary vision and artistry. ‘Each day we are given is a blessing,’” he said.

The sleek contemporary restaurant is BYO; reservations are required—but there are still a few spots open for New Year's Eve. Nugent's current winter menu is here.
