In some quarters, the latest fashion trend isn't dyed denim or wedges—it's clothing with pockets and pouches that allow the wearer to conceal and carry guns and other weapons. “What we’ve tried to do is create a collection of garments that allows the end user to have stylish lifestyle apparel but have features in the garment that enable them to carry a weapon and draw the weapon quickly,” says an employee of one of the companies selling the clothes. Call it preparedness chic.

This could open up an array of new markets for the entrepreneurial fashion designer who wants to serve the customer with something to hide or who want to be prepared for disaster. Consider these ideas:

Skirts with discreet pockets for tampons
Shirts with multiple compartments for smuggling candy into movie theaters
Barrettes and headbands with spaces for hiding recreational drugs
Capes with pockets for throwing stars, nunchucks, graphic novels, etc
Pants that can hold up to a week's supply of water and nutrition bars
Windbreakers that convert into parachutes
