If, like me, you were inexplicably excluded from the guest list for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute Benefit, one of the major fashion events of the year, don't fret: you can get all dolled up and watch the red carpet proceedings without ever leaving home, thanks to the miracle of technology. For the first time ever it'll be streamed live on three websites: the Met's, Vogue.com, and Amazon.com/Fashion. It happens Monday, May 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 central time.

This year the gala celebrates the opening of the exhibit "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," which explores the lives and art of two Italian designers from different eras: Elsa Schiaparelli, whose irreverent designs were often inspired by surrealism, and Miuccia Prada, a onetime Communist Party member who took over her family's luxury leather handbag business in the late 70s and turned it into one of the most successful and well-known designer labels in the world. The webcast will include segments about the exhibit, which incorporates imaginary "conversations" between the two designers, as well as interviews with Prada, Anna Wintour, and celebrity attendees.
