12 O'Clock Track: Colleen Green, "Good Good Things"

Colleen Green's new full-length, Milo Goes to Compton (Art Fag), comes off kind of like a tribute to the great punk bands of the past. Its title and black-and-white, marker-drawn cover are obvious nods to the Decendents' classic Milo Goes to College, and the LP's second track, "I Wanna Be Degraded," is an almost-cover of "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones. Plus the record kicks off with a cover of "Good Good Things," one of my all-time favorite Descendents songs and today's 12 O'Clock Track.

With little more than a guitar, a drum machine, and a cute pair of sunglasses, Green has created a record that can't seem to find its way off my turntable. Her simplistic, poppy punk numbers, sung in a breezy, laid-back cadence, are bright and fun and never take themselves too seriously. Milo Goes to Compton will make a great summer soundtrack—though Green's take on "Good Good Things" gives the pop-punk staple a somber tone, making it significantly darker than the tracks that follow.

And for good measure, a killer live video of the original version.
