I'm not entirely sure how I stumbled upon Houston rapper Fat Tony, but for the past couple years I've kept my eyes peeled for his music. Lately that's been pretty easy: the dude recently popped up on Big Baby Gandhi's No1 2 Look Up 2 mix tape and the solo offering from Das Racist's Heems, Nehru Jackets, and last week Young One Records released Fat Tony's new mix tape with Tom Cruz, Double Dragon.

I highly recommend checking out all of Fat Tony's new material, not just today's 12 O'Clock Track, "Rap Babies."

Feeding off a jittery beat, Fat Tony and friends—Negashi Armada, Tom Cruz, and Charly East—fondly recall their hip-hop upbringings and early rap careers, sprinkling their stories with self-deprecating humor. (My favorite line: "Selling CD-Rs to young hoes who believe we're stars / Just to cop a number six from Wendy's on Boulevard.") Fat Tony will hit the Burlington on Wednesday night with Milwaukee party rapper Juiceboxxx; you can get warmed up for the show by listening to "Rap Babies" and the rest of Fat Tony's great 2010 album, Rabdargab, available as a pay-what-you-want download at Bandcamp.
