I caught wind of D.C. MC Shy Glizzy last week via a short, simple tweet from Washington Post music critic Chris Richards: "D.C. rap fans, this new @shyglizzy mixtape is a must." I like to keep tabs on the music scene in my old hometown (not least because I contribute to the Washington City Paper), and I trust Richards when it comes to new music—so I immediately downloaded that mix tape, Law.

Today's 12 O'Clock Track is "Southside," the third song from Law and one that I just can't stop playing.

With its cosmic synth melody, rattling drum samples, crowd-sourced chorus, and perfectly restrained hook (provided by critical pariah Wale), "Southside" has everything you could ask for from a summer jam. It's the kind of song that feels like it's meant to be played unreasonably loud from a convertible. Take a listen for yourself, and grab Law from LiveMixtapes.
