When I spoke with Maserati guitarist Coley Dennis at the end of 2010, just before the release of Pyramid of the Sun and nearly a year after the death of drummer Jerry Fuchs, he admitted that he wasn't sure how far the band would keep going after the album dropped. Everyone was still very much dealing with the passing of Fuchs, and mapping out an uncertain future seemed like the least of the group's problems.

Fortunately, they decided to soldier on. A new album from the Athens-based instrumental outfit, Maserati VII, comes out on October 2 through Temporary Residence, and it carries on with their atmospheric, Krautrock-influenced sound. Today's 12 O'Clock Track, "Earth-Like," is a driving, stomping track featuring new drummer Mike Albanese and the usual blitz of delayed guitar and bursts of psychedelia. It's Maserati in all their glory, ready to soundtrack a winding, eerie drive down a backwoods road. (And here's "The Eliminator" too, just for good measure.)
