Coping we hardly knew ye

I've been a fan of local posthardcore four-piece Coping ever since I stumbled upon them at a show at defunct DIY space Summer Camp in summer 2010. So when the band announced in May that it was calling it quits, it bummed me out. The sad songs I'd learned from Coping's Lawndale cassette EP have an uplifting, cathartic energy to offset their troubled lyrics, but there didn't seem to be a plus side to the band breaking up.

Coping had their debut full-length in the works before they announced their imminent end, and Monday afternoon they released it via Bandcamp: Nope is ten tracks long, and it's a rager.

For now Nope is only available for streaming, but Arizona punk label Protagonist Music will release it on vinyl in December. In a Facebook post from yesterday about the response to the album, the band included a cryptic note about the future:

Looking forward to this vinyl thing coming out in December. Maybe something else is in store, too. Hmmm...

Sounds like maybe a reunion, but I'm not about to get my hopes up. I'll just keep streaming Nope—which you can also do below—until it comes out on vinyl.
