October is Chicago Artists Month and the festivities kick off with a block party hosted by the Bridgeport Arts Center, which features food trucks, local vendors, and previews of notable events that will transpire in the coming weeks.
A huge crew of new wave hip-hop artists performs at Reggie's Rock Club, featuring sets from the likes of Smoke Dza, Mr. Muthafuckin' Exquire, and Flatbush Zombies, a New York group Leor Galil says "have developed engagingly outlandish, even cartoonish rapping styles" that "blend well with [their] psychedelic beats." Also on the bill: Cashius Green with Pheo, Nakim, and Kembe X & Alex Wiley.
At the Hideout, Mark Bazer's monthly Interview Show features restaurateurs Curtis Duffy and Michael Muser, author Nathan Rabin (Weird Al: The Book), and saxophonist Frank Catalano as guests.
